Consultation on Post 16 SEND Transport Charges

Closes 13 Jun 2025

Opened 19 May 2025

Overview

In 2019, we conducted a survey to gather residents views on introducing a fee for post-16 SEND travel. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis, we decided to postpone the implementation of these charges.

Currently, the City of Wolverhampton Council is one of the few remaining authorities that does not charge for post-16 SEND travel. It is important to note that providing free travel for post-16 students is not a statutory requirement. To align with neighbouring local authorities, we are now considering introducing a new charging policy where parents/carers will be asked to make a contribution towards the cost of post-16 SEND travel.

We value your feedback and invite you to share your thoughts on this proposal. Your input is crucial in helping us make informed decisions that best support our community.
