Supported Housing Strategy

Overview

The City of Wolverhampton Council is consulting on the proposed priorities and outcomes for the new Supported Housing Strategy.

Supported housing provides accommodation alongside support to help people live as independently as possible. It can support a wide range of people, including people with disabilities, people experiencing homelessness, people with mental health needs, older people and others who may need additional support to live independently.

The new strategy will set out how the Council and its partners will work together to make sure supported housing in Wolverhampton meets the needs of residents now and in the future.

Over the past year, we have reviewed supported housing across the city and spoken to residents, supported housing providers, partners and other organisations. This has helped us understand what is working well, where there are challenges and what needs to improve.

Based on this work, we have developed four proposed priorities for the Supported Housing Strategy:

1. Prevent crisis and reduce demand through early intervention and support
Helping people to get the right support as early as possible, reducing the risk of their needs reaching crisis point.

2. Ensure the right type, quality and amount of supported housing to meet current and future need
Making sure Wolverhampton has suitable, good-quality supported housing that meets the different needs of residents, both now and in the future. 

3. Improve pathways, flow and move-on to support independence and free up capacity
Helping people access the right accommodation and support, and supporting people to move on when they are ready to live more independently.

4. Strengthen quality, oversight and safeguarding across all supported housing
Working with providers and partners to ensure supported housing is safe, good quality and provides residents with the support they need.
