Proposed Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Resource Base** – Colton Hills Community School

Overview

On 14 June 2026, Initial Consultation on the proposed SEND Resource Base at Colton Hills Community School concluded.

The Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education and the Executive Director of Families has recently reviewed the outcomes of Initial Consultation and determined that Formal Consultation (Representation) should commence for this proposal.

It is proposed that a 20-place Resource Base, for Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) be established at Colton Hills Community School which will support an increase in demand for specialist places.

**We acknowledge that under the proposed legislation changes, Resource Bases will be known as Inclusion Bases in the future.

Why your views matter

Demand for specialist school places has risen significantly in recent years and there has been an increase in the number of children with Education Health and Care Plans (EHCP). At present, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) is one of the most common primary needs.

Additional resource base provision is required to meet demand for SEND across the City and is commissioned by the Council and service level agreements (SLAs) are in place with individual providers/schools.
