Private Sector Housing Assistance Policy
Overview
The Private Sector Housing Assistance Policy explains what financial help the Council can offer to homeowners and tenants in private rented or housing association properties. This support is designed to help people improve their homes, making them safer, more suitable for their needs, and easier to live in independently.
The policy is based on national legislation that governs housing assistance and home adaptations, including Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs). These grants help fund adaptations so disabled people can live safely and independently in their own homes.
Our updated policy aims to provide a more focused offer to disabled, vulnerable, and older residents, helping them to remain in their homes for as long as possible and maintain their independence.
