CCTV Audio Consultation
Overview
CCTV is permitted within Wolverhampton's taxis. However, audio recording is currently prohibited to protect passenger privacy.
Following the deaths of several taxi drivers, the Council is considering permitting audio recording to protect drivers. Audio recording would not be continuous, but could be activated at any time in the journey by the driver or passengers.
There is a proposal for a revised CCTV policy on the voluntary installation of surveillance cameras, permitting panic switch activated audio recording facility within licensed vehicles by the vehicle proprietor.
A full six week consultation on the proposed policy will take place. As part of the consultation, please read the revised policy and complete the following survey.
