A4124 Wednesfield Road Consultation

Closed 26 Jul 2021

Opened 5 Jul 2021

Overview

City of Wolverhampton Council plans to improve walking and cycling routes along the A4124 Wednesfield Road. This is part of a plan to improve the cycling provision to key destinations such as New Cross Hospital, University of Wolverhampton Springfield Campus and Bentley Bridge retail park. The route improvements begin at Culwell Street and are intended to join an existing cycle path near Bentley Bridge, improving connectivity between Wolverhampton City Centre and Wednesfield.

As mentioned on the previous consultation the scheme aims to provide a continuous high-quality cycle route from the city centre to Wednesfield. Below are the design drawings for Phase 1 of the scheme and they have been updated to reflect changes in the design from Lock Street to Inkerman Street. The proposed route between Culwell Street and Sun Street will now run along the North side, rather than the South, which delivers lower construction costs and less disruption to road users. This section of the route now has a finalised design and the remainder is under development in readiness for future funding opportunities.

Phase 1 of the scheme will be completed by spring, with the further phases to follow as soon as practicable.
