Bantock Park - Proposed Overspill Car Park

Closes 30 Aug 2019

Opened 12 Aug 2019

We would like the thoughts of local residents regarding the possibility of developing an overspill car park in Bantock Park.

Why We Are Consulting

The grassed area to the rear of the existing car park has been used for excess parking or activities, particularly when a popular event has been taking place in the park. This has invariably resulted in the ground being left in an unsightly condition, requiring expensive reinstatements.

In considering a possible solution to this problem, we have looked to design a space which could be used for occasional additional parking, as well as potential events such as marquees, subject to the necessary permissions and safety considerations. We have also looked to improve access and provision for taxi drop-offs and collections, as well as for coach parties, while ensuring the proposed improvements are in-keeping with the historic park and surrounding conservation area.

Our design suggests a “grass-crete” style of surface to the rear of the car park. This process involves supporting a natural grassed surface with plastic cellular matting on top of a reinforced base. The area would be surrounded with white steel estate fencing and gates, in-keeping with the existing fencing around the House. The design would regrettably require the removal of several small and medium sized trees, however their loss would be fully compensated for with the fresh planting of suitable trees elsewhere on site, to ensure the park’s important natural habitat is properly safeguarded.
