THE WOLVERHAMPTON CITY COUNCIL (BRADLEY LANE & CROSS STREET) (20 MPH SPEED LIMIT) ORDER 2020

THE WOLVERHAMPTON CITY COUNCIL (BRADLEY LANE & CROSS STREET) PROPOSED TRAFFIC CALMING MEASURES

Bradley Lane & Cross Street has been identified as a high road safety risk location, this is due to the number of collisions and the related issue of speeding motorists. Because of this City of Wolverhampton Council is proposing to implement a traffic calming and associated speed reduction scheme in the interest of road safety. The attached plans detail:

  • A 20mph speed limit along the whole length of Bradley Lane and Cross Street, from its junction with Gt Bridge St to Rose Street/ Wilkinson Avenue junction
  • Associated traffic calming along the whole length of Bradley Lane in the form of vertical traffic calming features including, Speed Cushions, Flat Top Humps and a Raised Junction Table. This plan also details Bus Stop Clearway markings.

As part of this scheme the existing Bus stops will be re-designated Bus Stop Clearways which will restrict waiting and stopping for all vehicles except for buses to ensure kerbside at these locations remains clear to allow all passengers, especially those with mobility issues, to board and leave the bus safely. There will be some minor movement of one of the bus stops to allow for the associated Traffic Calming features to be installed so as not to interfere with the existing property access driveways.

The above proposals are designed to make Bradley Lane and surrounding roads a 20mph Zone. The traffic calming measures we are proposing have previously proven to be effective in reducing vehicle speeds and the number and severity of accidents. The scheme will help improve the environment for pedestrians and cyclists as well as making the whole estate a safer place for residents and businesses.
