Mandatory Left Turn - Hare Street, Chapel Street (Bilston) Experimental Order (ETRO) 2024
Overview
THE WOLVERHAMPTON CITY COUNCIL (BILSTON AREA) (PROHIBITION OF MOVEMENT AND MANDATORY TURNS) EXPERIMENTAL ORDER 2024
Hare Street, Chapel Street junctions with Oxford Street – Mandatory Left Turn Experimental Order
Following an annual road safety review the junction of the A41 Oxford Street, Hare Street and Chapel Street was noted to have a high record of personal injury collisions. Detailed investigation showed that a high proportion of injury collisions involved vehicles travelling across the A41, from and to Chapel Street and Hare Street.
Given the results of the review and following the formal consultation held at the start of 2024, City of Wolverhampton Council is now implementing an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order (ETRO) to include a mandatory left turn restriction from Hare Street to Oxford Street, and from Chapel Street to Oxford Street, supported by physical measures. The scheme is intended to eliminate the straight ahead and right turn movements primarily responsible for the prevailing collision history.
The experimental order will last for a period up to 18 months. After 18 months it will be determined whether to make the whole, or part, of the Traffic Regulation Order (or the latest variation or modification of the Order) permanent.
Comments or objections can be made during the first six months of the experimental order. Should you wish to object or comment during this six-month period (to 22nd May 2025), please respond by email using the contact email address with the heading Hare Street / Chapel Street, providing your full name and full address.
